Browsers allow you to store passwords when you visit a website. So, instead of having to re-enter your username and password manually each time, browsers provide a feature to save your passwords.
Finding saved password in Chrome:
First you will need to check whether you have “Offer to save passwords I enter on the web” enabled:
1. Click Chrome menu (three horizontal lines) top right on the browser toolbar > Settings
You can also type this link in the URL bar chrome://settings/ to visit the Settings page.
2. Adjust your password settings in the ‘Passwords and forms” section
3. Select “Offer to save passwords I enter on the web”
4. You should now click this > Manage saved passwords
5. Enable password generation: Type chrome://flags/ in the browser
Now scroll down to “Enable password generation” click > Enable
You will now need to restart the browser which will then prompt you for your system password
Passwords are still in plaintext but now are secured with a Master Password
Finding saved password in Firefox:
1. Open Firefox browser and navigate to Firefox (the orange button on the top left) >Options >Options
2. On the Options dialog switch to Security section. Under Passwords there is a button reading Saved Passwords. Click on the button
3. A new window for Saved Passwords will come up. It contains the list of websites visited and stored usernames for the same
4. If you want to check out the passwords, click on Show Passwords button. The new list will add one more column for the respective passwords
If you've been using Master Password feature you will be asked for it before the underlying passwords are revealed.
Finding saved password in Safari:
Click on Safari at the toolbar at the top left-hand corner of the screen and select Preferences. Once you’re in, you will see the Passwords tab.
